Capella Bangkok: Hotel Review

There are luxury hotels, and then there is Capella Bangkok.

Set along the Chao Phraya River, Capella Bangkok is easily one of the most memorable hotel stays we have ever experienced. It is elegant without feeling cold, polished without feeling stiff, and somehow manages to feel peaceful even though you are still right in the middle of Bangkok.

Bangkok can be loud, chaotic, colourful, delicious, humid, and full of energy all at once, but Capella gives you this calm little pocket by the river where everything slows down in the best way.

There is a reason this hotel is regarded as one of the best in the world. It was named the World’s Best Hotel in 2024 by The World’s 50 Best Hotels and ranked No. 3 in 2025, but what I loved most was that the experience never felt like it was trying too hard. It was refined, yes, but also warm, thoughtful, and surprisingly personal.

Location & Getting There

Capella Bangkok is located along Charoenkrung Road, right on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

This part of Bangkok feels especially atmospheric because the river is such a huge part of the city’s personality. Longtail boats pass by, ferries move up and down the water, golden light hits the buildings in the late afternoon, and everything feels cinematic without needing to do much at all.

The hotel is also in a great location for exploring Bangkok without being right in the busiest tourist centre. You are close enough to reach major areas of the city, but the riverside setting gives the stay a calmer, more resort-like feeling. It’s such a nice contrast to the usual Bangkok hotel experience, especially if you have already done the big shopping malls and busy streets before.

One of the best parts of the stay was the resort shuttle boat, which connects guests to ICONSIAM and Sathorn Pier for the BTS Skytrain. Bangkok traffic can be a lot, so being able to move around by river made the whole experience feel much more relaxed.

We arrived at Capella Bangkok in the afternoon and started with a tour of the hotel, which gave us a proper look around the property. I think with hotels like this, the details are what make it special - the way the spaces connect, how the greenery softens everything, how the river views keep appearing, and how every corner feels carefully considered.

Our Room

Our room at Capella Bangkok was beautiful in such an understated way.

The first thing that hits you is the view. The room opens up to these huge floor-to-ceiling windows looking straight across the Chao Phraya River, and it makes such a difference to the whole stay. You are not just looking at Bangkok from above - you are watching the city move along the water.

The design felt calm, elegant, and residential. Nothing was overly flashy, but everything felt expensive in that quiet way. Soft neutral tones, warm wood, a generous sitting area, beautiful lighting, and plenty of space to just sit and take in the river.

I loved that the room felt like somewhere you actually wanted to spend time, not just somewhere to sleep. The river view was especially gorgeous in the late afternoon. The light softened, the buildings across the river started to glow, and the whole room just had this dreamy Bangkok atmosphere.

Facilities

Capella Bangkok feels more like an urban sanctuary than a city hotel.

The pool area was such a highlight. Surrounded by greenery and overlooking the river, it felt peaceful, fresh, and incredibly relaxing. I loved that it didn’t feel like a huge resort pool trying to make a statement. It was elegant, calm, and beautifully framed by the gardens and architecture.

We also enjoyed a Pinto lunch by the pool, which was such a lovely way to spend the afternoon.

The hotel also has access to The Living Room, which became one of our favourite spaces during the stay. It feels more intimate than a standard hotel lounge and hosts different Capella Moments and cultural experiences. During our stay, we joined the Capella Bangkok Arts Curation experience, which was a great way to better understand the design, art, and personality behind the property.

We also joined Cin Cin Hour at The Living Room, which is Capella’s evening riverside aperitif ritual. It was such a gorgeous way to start the evening - drinks, conversation, and that golden Bangkok river light doing its thing.

Another thing that stood out was the Capella Culturist concept. Rather than feeling like a typical concierge, it felt more personal and considered. The whole stay was beautifully organised without ever feeling over-scheduled.

Wellness

Capella Bangkok is also home to Auriga Wellness, and this was easily one of the most relaxing parts of our stay.

The spa is tucked into a lush, leafy part of the property, so even walking there already puts you in a calmer mood. There is something about being surrounded by greenery in the middle of Bangkok that feels so luxurious, especially when the city outside can be so intense.

On our final morning, we had complimentary signature treatments at Auriga Wellness, and it was such a perfect way to end the stay. The treatment felt personalised, calming, and deeply relaxing without being overly formal.

There are also daily wellness experiences, including sunrise yoga by the river. We did not make it to sunrise yoga because, let’s be real, we are not naturally sunrise people, but I love that the option is there for guests who want to start the day slowly by the water.

Dining

Dining was a huge part of our Capella Bangkok stay, and this is where the hotel really shines.

Phra Nakhon

Phra Nakhon was where we had both breakfast and dinner, and it ended up being one of our favourite parts of the whole experience.

The restaurant sits by the river and has this gorgeous indoor-outdoor feel, with a lush garden setting that makes it feel relaxed but still really refined. It celebrates Thai family recipes and local flavours, which I loved because it felt connected to the city rather than being a generic luxury hotel restaurant.

Dinner at Phra Nakhon was such a beautiful introduction to the stay. The food felt vibrant, generous, and full of flavour, but still presented with that Capella level of polish. It was Thai food in a setting that felt elegant without losing warmth.

Breakfast here was also excellent. You can have daily breakfast at Phra Nakhon or through in-room dining, and we loved having the option to enjoy breakfast slowly rather than rushing out. The breakfast felt thoughtful and fresh, with a mix of local dishes and more familiar options.

One of my favourite dishes was the pad kra pao-style breakfast dish with egg. Simple, comforting, full of flavour, and honestly exactly what I want to eat in Thailand.

Stella

On our second night, we had complimentary food and drinks at Stella, and this was such a different mood.

Stella is glamorous, dramatic, and a little bit theatrical in the best way. The interiors are beautiful, the cocktails feel special, and the whole space has this moody evening energy that makes you want to dress up a little.

It was a fun contrast to the calm riverside feel of Phra Nakhon. Where Phra Nakhon felt bright, warm, and relaxed, Stella felt more intimate and sophisticated. We had drinks and small bites, and it was such a gorgeous way to spend our final night at the hotel.

Also, I need to mention the white peacock because that room is honestly a moment!

Other Dining Venues

While we did not manage to try every dining venue during this stay, Capella Bangkok has plenty more to explore.

Côte by Mauro Colagreco is the hotel’s two-MICHELIN-star fine dining restaurant, bringing a Riviera-inspired dining experience to the Chao Phraya River. There is also the Tea Lounge for afternoon tea and daytime refreshments overlooking the river and lily pond, plus KIN for artisan patisserie and made-to-order cakes.

So yes, if you are someone who loves hotel dining, Capella Bangkok is absolutely one of those places where you could plan a whole stay around the food.

Staff & Service

The service at Capella Bangkok was exceptional, but what made it stand out was how natural it felt.

At some ultra-luxury hotels, service can sometimes feel a little too formal or intimidating, but here it was polished while still being warm and easy. Everyone we interacted with was thoughtful, calm, and genuinely helpful.

From the arrival experience to the dining team, spa therapists, The Living Room staff, and our interactions with the Capella Culturist, everything felt beautifully handled. The team made the stay feel seamless without making it feel staged, and that is honestly hard to do.

It also helped that the itinerary was curated in a way that let us experience the hotel properly. We were able to enjoy the room, the pool, the dining, the wellness, the cultural experiences, and the riverside setting without feeling rushed.

Final Verdict

Capella Bangkok is easily one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at.

What makes it so special is not just the river view, the beautiful rooms, the food, the spa, or the awards. It is the way all of those things come together so effortlessly. The whole stay felt calm, elegant, personal, and deeply considered.

It’s luxurious, but not in a loud way. It is impressive, but not flashy. It feels like a hotel for people who appreciate beautiful design, thoughtful service, excellent food, and a slower, more meaningful way to experience Bangkok.

For us, the magic was in the rhythm of the stay: waking up to the Chao Phraya River, having breakfast at Phra Nakhon, spending time by the pool, joining Capella Moments, enjoying Cin Cin Hour at The Living Room, heading to Stella for cocktails, and ending the stay with a signature treatment at Auriga Wellness.

Bangkok has no shortage of luxury hotels, but Capella Bangkok really does feel special. It is polished, peaceful, and so beautifully connected to the river.

We left feeling relaxed, spoiled, and honestly a little sad to check out.
