Madame C Strasbourg: Hotel Review
/Madame C was such a different kind of hotel stay for us.
After a string of bigger city hotels and resorts, this felt much more intimate - moodier, and full of personality. It’s not the type of hotel where the story is about a massive pool or endless facilities. The charm here is in the details: velvet curtains, candlelit corners, deep colours, antique-style furniture, and rooms that feel like they belong in Strasbourg rather than anywhere else.
The hotel has just 12 exclusive rooms, so it already feels more private and boutique from the moment you arrive. It’s adults-only too, which adds to that quieter, more refined feeling. The whole place has this Belle Époque mood - it feels theatrical, bespoke, and really considered.
We stayed in a Divine Double Room with Bath and Cathedral View, with breakfast included, and also had dinner at Madame C Restaurant. For a short Strasbourg stay, it gave us exactly what we wanted: a beautiful room, a gorgeous old-town location, and a hotel that felt like part of the destination.
Location & Getting There
Madame C is right in the historic centre of Strasbourg, around Rue des Sœurs, so the location is fantastic if you want to explore the old town on foot.
You’re only a short walk from Strasbourg Cathedral, the colourful half-timbered streets, little restaurants, wine bars, shops, and all those classic Alsatian corners that make the city so photogenic.
This was one of my favourite things about the stay. You could step outside and immediately be surrounded by that Strasbourg atmosphere - narrow streets, historic façades, shutters, cobblestones, and the cathedral tower appearing between buildings.
It’s a lovely base if you want to wander without over-planning. Strasbourg is already a city made for walking, and staying somewhere this central makes it even easier to just head out, get lost for a bit, and find your way back when you’re ready.
Our Room: Divine Double Room with Bath and Cathedral View
Our room was absolutely the highlight.
The Divine rooms are part of the hotel’s larger room category, ranging around 26 to 28 square metres, and they face the cathedral. Our room had that beautiful view over the old town, with the cathedral rising behind the timber-framed buildings. It genuinely felt like waking up inside a postcard.
The room itself was moody, romantic, and really stylish. Deep green tones, patterned wallpaper, velvet curtains, soft lighting, and a dramatic headboard made it feel more like a private townhouse bedroom than a standard hotel room.
I loved that it leaned into its own personality. It wasn’t trying to be minimal or neutral. It was bold, moody, and a little theatrical, which suited the building and the city so well.
The bathroom also had a proper bathtub, which was such a nice bonus after being out exploring Strasbourg. The room category includes a bath, cathedral/landmark view, air conditioning, soundproofing, tea and coffee facilities, and a flat-screen TV with streaming services.
But really, the magic was the window. Opening it up and looking down onto those historic streets with the cathedral in the background was easily one of the most memorable parts of our Strasbourg stay.
Dining & Bar
Madame C also has its own restaurant and bar, which fit the whole mood of the hotel perfectly.
The restaurant, Alcôve, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an intimate lounge-style setting. The hotel describes it as a place for meticulous dishes, precious spirits, and a Belle Époque-style intermezzo, which sounds fancy, but honestly, the feeling is simple: it’s cosy, classy, and a little bit dramatic.
We had dinner at Madame C Restaurant, and it was such a nice way to enjoy the hotel without having to head back out into the city. The space is small and atmospheric, with red tones, candlelight, velvet seating, and a bar that feels like somewhere you’d want to linger for a while.
The food leaned elegant and French, with a polished but not overly stiff feel. It worked really well for the setting - dinner here felt more like a quiet little evening tucked away in Strasbourg than a big restaurant night.
The bar was also beautiful. It had that moody red glow, a gorgeous back bar, and a slightly hidden, members-club kind of feeling. Even if you’re only staying one night, I’d definitely make time for a drink here.
Final Verdict
Madame C Strasbourg is a lovely choice if you want something small, classy, and full of atmosphere.
This isn’t a hotel you choose for huge facilities. You choose it for the mood, the location, the interiors, and that feeling of staying somewhere that actually matches the city around you.
The Divine Double Room with Bath and Cathedral View was beautiful, especially with those old-town views and the cathedral right outside. The restaurant and bar added to the experience too, giving the stay a more complete boutique-hotel feel.
For a romantic Strasbourg stay, or even just a stylish city break with a bit more personality, Madame C is such a charming option.
