History of Velden am Wörthersee

The resort town of Velden am Wörthersee has been around since at least the 12th century, with many old documents mentioning the resort town.

Velden am Worthersee has an interesting history behind it

In 1545, a noble family had acquired the lands of Landskron and Velden, and had a giant mansion built on the land. Later, the castle was acquired by the House of Dietrichstein. Unfortunately, the castle was destroyed by a fire and it wasn’t until 1892 that Schloss Velden was rebuilt as a hotel.

Today, Velden am Wörthersee serves visitors looking to relax, take in the proudly blue Wörthersee lake and enjoy this underrated resort town.
